ROB GRIMM  “The Dream”

As a photographer, my goal is to capture a moment in time to convey a story. The narrative could be one of joy or heartbreak, love or exuberance. Emotions can change in an instant, and if you blink, it may be gone forever. But in a dream, these slivers of life can be pieced together to create a different storyline with each new addition or subtraction you make. It is here that I find my inspiration – in the ability to dream.

Since I was a child, my life has been driven by the emotional canvas that is all around us. It started as I worked along side my artist father as his hands guided mine along the potter’s wheel. Here I learned that beauty could be refined, but I also learned that beauty is not always what it seems. This was reinforced when my mother bought me first camera at the age of eight, and from that point on, I saw life through a different lens.

Designing functional and emotional products is another extension of being an artist. As a photographer, people may look at an image of mine and feel an immediate, but fleeting sense of emotion. As a craftsman, I now have the ability create a tangible piece of art that people can extend the emotional lifespan and connection to for years to come. We all have dreams and I am fortunate to see many of mine become a reality. As an artist and designer, there is no more satisfying a feeling.
